![]() ![]() I wrote down my name on number 16 - table for 2. I arrived around 11am, the restaurant was closed, but there was a table with a list over it (photo) where you should write down your name and a notice with phone number and email for reservations (I didn't take photo of that one, unfortunately). So I decided to step by and check that list. Next day, I first asked the front desk hotel to try to make a reservation. A lady who was waiting for her table mentioned a list that would be available until around midday, where we should write our name to book a table. On the first day, I arrived there around 1:30pm and it was already fully booked. In my opinion, many are tourists who know nothing about what great Thai food is supposed to taste like. ![]() Be careful of all the 5 starred reviews in Tripadvisor. I have tried a number of Michelin Starred places which were a disappointment. This only goes to show that Michelin Stars are nothing but hogwash. If you want to try Jay Fai based on what you have heard or watched (especially on Netflix), don't bother. All of us at the table agreed her food is nothing special. This is not a case of "One man's meat is another man's poison". THB6000 for 6 adults is affordable but very very expensive by Thai standards for the kind of establishment. The premium she charged for the quality of the ingredients used is understandable, but the quality and skill of the chef - a big NO. The conclusion was that Jay Fai's food was ordinary at best. Given her popularity and all the hype and anticipation, we finally had our questions answered when we tried her food - which we would never have known if we did not visit. Overall, we did not regret visiting Jay Fai's. However, the same standard of Tom Yam can be found at many other places in Bangkok, not necessarily only at Jay Fai's. The only thing that stood out was her Tom Yam. Savoey's did the best rendition of Poo Pad Pong Gari I have ever tasted in Bangkok. Having just eaten the same dish at Savoey the night before, Jay Fai's version was really really ordinary at best. The most disappointing was her Poo Pad Pong Gari (Stir Fried Crab Meat with Curry Powder). It was nothing more than under-seasoned crab meat with layers of and a coating of omelette on the outside. Her famous crab omelette also did not meet up to expectations as we expected that it would taste better than what it really did. Credit given that Jay Fai uses large and fresh seafood, but the prawns and seafood she used were largely under seasoned and tasteless inside apart from a scant coating of the seasoning on the outside. As someone who can cook similar dishes to Jay Fai such as Pad Kaprow, Pad Keemao, her dishes were rather lacklustre. We did not believe the poor reviews posted on Thai social media, and I famously dismissed those reviews read by my wife as sour grapes by working class Thais who could not afford Jay Fai's expensive food. Being an avid home cook of all international cuisines (including Asian and Thai food), we wanted to try this highly touted and Michelin starred street food store which serves up Thai classics. We insist on the highest standards at all times.ĭemand, expect or ask? Ask is not as strong as demand or expect, both of which can be more like a command.Posting this here in case TripAdvisor does not approve my review: I visited Jay Fai for a meal with friends and family with a mix of Thai and non-Thais who are all well travelled foodies.Insist to demand that something happens or that somebody agrees to do something: I expect to be paid promptly for the work. All candidates will be required to take a short test.Įxpect to demand that somebody should do, have or be something, especially because it is their duty or responsibility:. ![]() Require ( rather formal) to make somebody do or have something, especially because it is necessary according to a law or set of rules or standards: demand to make a very strong request for something to say very definitely that somebody should have or do something: Synonyms demand demand require ▪ expect ▪ insist ▪ ask These words all mean to say that somebody should do or have something. ![]()
